SPELEOS

SAPIENS

The real adventure passes from here.

Travel through the Darwin tropical forest and travel through time in the Cretaceous period. You will meet the absolute rulers of that era, dinosaurs and pterosaurs, you will immerse yourself in a mysterious atmosphere. You must not lack courage because you could meet two huge alligators.

The geological era represented is the one that goes from about 150 to 65 million years ago. The vegetation present will envelop you among ferns, araucarias and ginkgoines, but also palms, magnolias and orchids.

Watch out for what is hidden among this vegetation ... you will meet a Deinonychus antirrhopus and a Pteranodon.

In the forest there are also reptiles ... the huge alligators! These extraordinary predators with their armored bodies, muscular tails and powerful jaws evolved over 150 million years ago, and 65 million years ago they managed to avoid extinction, unlike their prehistoric contemporaries, the dinosaurs.

Planet Theatre

Planet Theatre* is a journey through time to discover the ice age and the majestic mammoths.

In the same place where ice cathedrals once stood, a team of scientists in 2007 brought to light, for the first time, an entire frozen mammoth: little Lyuba. A truly unique discovery for the world of paleontology, biology and science.

Watching Lyuba is looking back in time, understanding how relics of the Ice Age can connect us to our past.

This young mammoth traveled 42,000 years to share its secrets. The woolly mammoths, titans of the Ice Age, are now extinct. While we, who lived among them, survive.
The more we learn about their world, the better we understand our own. It was our minds that helped us survive the ice. And only our wisdom can guide us toward a sustainable future. Because the Ice Age is a climate story that is more relevant today than ever.

Planet Theatre awaits you for a true "edutainment" experience.

*Open to the public from April 18th

Genesis

Relive the evolution of the entire Universe

From the Big Bang to the dawn of life on Earth, from the extinction of the dinosaurs to the emergence of our ancestors, through the last Ice Age, Genesis is a true journey into the past, starting 14 billion years ago. A deeply immersive journey divided into four rooms, with engaging 3D and multisensory effects.

Fourteen billion years ago, a great explosion, the Big Bang, gave birth to the Universe. Earth formed 4.6 billion years ago from the fusion of cosmic debris. The densest elements slowly concentrated in the planet's core, while the lighter ones settled outward; the slow cooling of the fiery magma solidified the Earth's crust.

About 4.4 billion years ago, intense volcanic activity created an atmosphere rich in methane, ammonia, carbon monoxide, and water vapor. This water, falling as rain to the earth, formed the oceans; the shallow, warm waters around the volcanoes concentrated the chemicals that gave rise to the first forms of life.

Two billion years ago, the first complex unicellular organisms appeared, and 750 million years ago, the first multicellular organisms began to develop.

The journey continues, stopping 150 million years ago, at the beginning of the Cretaceous Period. Dinosaurs and pterosaurs were the absolute rulers of the planet and had by then colonized every continent. However, about 65 million years ago, at the end of the Cretaceous Period, an extraordinary event led to the disappearance of most of them. A meteor shower caused such climatic upheavals that these animals were unable to adapt to the change. After the dinosaurs disappeared, mammals took over.

About 10,000 years ago, the last ice age ended and conditions on the planet became particularly favorable to the advent of man.

Village

Let yourself be transported to a distant era.

Inside Village,
in the new themed area of Oltremare 2.0, you can explore the world of ancient stilt houses and relive the Copper Age.

A play area entirely dedicated to children, designed to stimulate their imagination and their spirit of adventure. This space will transport children, thanks to their imagination, back in time, to a fascinating and mysterious era.

The play structures, entirely made of wood, faithfully reproduce the homes of the time, immersed in a setting that takes up the theme of water, lakes, rivers and marshy areas where the pile dwellings and the first communities developed.

What do we know about them?
Thanks to archaeological excavations we have discovered a lot about the life of the inhabitants of the pile-dwelling villages. Some finds have been found: tools such as fishing, hunting, agriculture and material processing tools; everyday objects such as ceramics, fabrics and jewellery; food remains such as seeds, animal bones and traces of plants. These finds have allowed us to reconstruct today their diets, their economic activities, their social relations and their religious beliefs.

Village is a unique and unforgettable experience to learn while having fun, an exciting adventure between the end of Prehistory and the beginning of History.
