Cichlids and alligators
In the central lake of Darwin coexists with the two huge alligators, a numerous herd of African cichlids , real living fossils.
Cichlids are a group of small to medium-sized fish found in freshwater habitats in the tropics. They have undergone rapid diversification in Africa, which is home to at least 1100 species, this process has been particularly important in the Great Lakes of the East African Rift Valley (Tanganyika, Malawi and Victoria Lakes) from which our specimens originate.
